Redwood Intelligent Lighting Networks is currently the most innovative solution allowing to power and control lights in the commercial buildings. Commscope Co. is modifying this system since 2013 and is implementing it by supporting it with its own structured cabling solution Systimax.
However the history of Redwood brand begun few years earlier. In 2008 the Redwood Systems was established. Start-up offered unconventional solution of lighting powered by structured cabling power supply. Although Ethernet cabling cannot power standard light bulbs, it is capable of powering LED diodes, which are low-voltage lights. Additional assets of this solution are e.g. capability of sending signals and monitoring of the whole network. This way the founding team of Redwood Systems contributed significantly to the development of intelligent building infrastructure solutions.
In 2013 Commscope Co. acquired Redwood Systems. Since then the American producer has been using obtained technology in order to create even more comprehensive automated infrastructure management platform. As a result of this action Commscope Co. added to its offer a solution called Redwood Intelligent Lighting Networks. Company is implementing this platform using its own structured cabling – Systimax.
Implementation of Redwood platform provides energy savings which typically average over 70 percent improvement over traditional fluorescent lighting systems. The innovative instrument of Commscope Co. can be integrated with BMS automatic management system of the buildings. This technology also provides:
- monitoring energy usage,
- monitoring room occupancy,
- motion detection,
- temperature measurement,
- environmentals measurement.
Management and monitoring of energy usage is possible through the WEB SERVER using browser on PC or on a handheld device. The application stores data so it is available for graphical review and detailed analysis. The Redwood platform also uses sophisticated techniques such as “follow-me lighting” and daylight harvesting to further reduce energy consumption.
Implementation of Redwood Intelligent Lighting Networks also allows to receive up to 29 LEED points and up to 18 BREEAM credits.
